SILICON IMAGE SHIPS 20 MILLIONTH PANELLINK® CHIP

Silicon Image today announced the shipment of its 20 millionth PanelLink® chip-the market-leading implementation of the industry's Digital Visual Interface (DVI) standard used to connect digital host and display devices.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 14, 2001--Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a price/performance leader in high-bandwidth semiconductor solutions for mass markets, today announced the shipment of its 20 millionth PanelLink® chip-the market-leading implementation of the industry's Digital Visual Interface (DVI) standard used to connect digital host and display devices. Delivered to Acer Group, Design, Manufacturing and Services (DMS), this milestone shipment was achieved less than six months after Silicon Image shipped its 15 millionth PanelLink chip.

Haydn Hsieh, Vice President of Materials Management for Acer-DMS, stated, "Silicon Image has a strong track record of providing reliable, high-performance DVI-compliant chips. We rely on Silicon Image as a key supplier of transmitter, receiver and monitor controller solutions for our PC/display products and continue to be very pleased with their superior quality control, ease of integration and high-level of customer support."

Silicon Image Chief Operating Officer Steve Tirado noted, "Despite the general industry slowdown, we reached our 20 millionth PanelLink milestone shipment less than six months after shipping our 15 millionth chip-demonstrating continued demand for PanelLink products. This is largely due to the fact that digital interfaces have gone mainstream. As flat panel LCD monitors have become more affordable in recent months, more consumers than ever before now have the opportunity to experience the advantages of digital." Tirado added, "As the industry-standard digital connection, we can expect DVI to proliferate as LCD monitors continue to gain market share. If it's highly reliable DVI, it's PanelLink. With a complete range of proven PanelLink solutions on both sides of the DVI link, Silicon Image is well positioned to capitalize on this growing market opportunity." Having been incorporated in products by all of the top 10 PC OEMs and top 10 display manufacturers, PanelLink is the industry's first and most widely adopted implementation of the DVI specification, which is based on Silicon Image's Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS™) technology. Outside the PC/display market, DVI is also gaining momentum in the consumer electronics market, where a number of systems manufacturers have publicly stated their intentions to add DVI with High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) capability into their products.
